Title: Bringing Neglected Space to Light: Understanding and Treating Visuospatial Attention Deficits with Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation

Dissertation Maastricht University, Department of Cognitive Neuroscience of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (Brain Stimulation and Cognition group)

This thesis investigates how non-invasive brain stimulation can support recovery in people with visuospatial neglect after stroke, a condition where individuals fail to notice visual information on one side of space, often the left. The research focuses on a gentle form of stimulation combined with attention training. The findings contribute to the development of affordable, brain-based therapies that complement traditional rehabilitation, aiming to improve recovery and independence in daily life. The work offers clinicians and researches new insights and tools to move toward more personalized, brain-targeted treatments, rather than one-size-fits-all approaches.
